Maddie Homovich Nabs 200 Back Top Seed at Day 3 Prelims of Atlanta Classic

The final day of the 2018 Atlanta Classic arrived at the McAuley Aquatic Center and featured a variety of athletes claiming top seeds.

Among the top seeds for the third day were Emma BarksdaleMaddie Homovich, and Joey Reilman.

Women’s 200 IM

Emma Barksdale of Gamecock Aquatics delivered the top seed of the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.26, followed by Athens Bulldogs’ Danielle DellaToore (2:19.50) and Nation’s Capital’s Abby Harter (2:19.84).

14-year-old Meghan Lynch qualified fourth overall with a time of 2:20.72, while Metroplex’s Vanessa Pearl turned in a 2:21.07 for fifth.

Julia Poole of Marlins of Raleigh took the sixth-place seed with a 2:21.16, followed closely by Athens Bulldogs’ Caitln Casazza’s 2:21.23.

Tennessee’s Alexis Yager (2:21.65), Metroplex’s Lindsay Looney (2:22.37), and Gator Swim Club’s Kelly Fertel (2:22.56) completed the top ten.

Men’s 200 IM

Tom Peribonio, representing Gamecock Aquatics, posted the top time of the men’s 200 IM prelims with a 2:04.62. SwimAtlanta’s Andrew Winto and Club Seminole’s Juan Sequera picked up the second- and third-place seeds with times of 2:05.79 and 2:06.45.

Pointe-Claire’s James Guest grabbed the fourth-place seed with a 2:07.12, while Minnesota’s Eitan Yudashkin was fifth with a 2:07.28.

Gator Swim Club’s Mark Szaranek (2:07.42), Caeleb Dressel (2:07.68), Santa Clara’s Aidan Burns (2:08.62), SwimFlorida’s Santi Corredor (2:08.91), and Tennessee’s Owen Devine (2:10.30) also qualified for the A final.

Women’s 200 Back

A trio of teenagers picked up the top seeds in the women’s 200 back. The charge was led by 18-year-old Maddie Homovich of Marlins of Raleigh, who turned in a time of 2:14.11. She was joined by Cavalier’s Paige Madden (2:14.87) and Nation’s Capital’s Phoebe Bacon (2:17.86).

Lakeside’s Sydney Sell was fourth in prelims with a 2:18.34, just ahead of Club Seminole’s Natalie Mannion and her time of 2:18.60.

Auburn’s Erin Falconer (2:19.02), Gwinnett’s Anne Jahns (2:19.19), and Tennessee’s Christina Paspalas (2:20.63) rounded out the A final.

Men’s 200 Back

Joey Reilman of Tennessee Aquatics claimed a solid first-place seed with a time of 2:02.85, qualifying two seconds ahead of Cal’s Ethan Young and his time of 2:04.85.

Reilman’s teammates, Nathan Murray, posted a 2:05.87 for third in prelims, followed by Marlins of Raleigh’s John Healy’s 2:06.38.

Bayley Main of Gator Swim Club nabbed the fifth-place seed with a 2:07.41, while Yellow Jacket’s Colton Williamson posted a 2:07.77 to qualify sixth.

Dynamo’s Cade Anderson (2:07.84) and Quest’s Ethan Beach (2:07.86) were seventh and eighth in prelims.

Tennessee teammates Stanzi Moseley and Erika Brown sprinted to the top of the A final with qualifying times of 56.32 and 56.39.

SwimAtlanta’s Amanda Weir turned in a 56.68, followed closely by Tennessee’s Meghan Small (56.73) and Canada’s Penny Oleksiak (56.98).

Athens Bulldogs’ Jordan Stout (57.22), York YCMA’s Courtney Harnish (57.36), Missouri’s Samantha Porter (57.43), Tennessee’s Bailey Grinter (57.92), and SwimAtlanta’s Emma Alexander (58.18) completed the top ten qualifiers.

Men’s 100 Free

Peter Holoda of Tiger Elite led a trio of men beneath the 51-second mark for prelims of the 100 free. Holoda turned in a 50.22 for the first-place seed, followed closely by Michael Andrew’s 50.65 and Shane Ryan’s 50.85.

Athens Bulldogs’ Youssef Said posted a 51.01 for the fourth-place seed, while Ajax’s Javier Acevedo grabbed the fifth-place seed with a 51.23.

Alec Conolly of Tennessee picked up the sixth-place seed with a 51.27, followed by Caeleb Dressel and his time of 51.32.

Trinity Prep’s Jan Collazo Torres and Pleasanton’s Maxime Rooney tied for eighth in prelims with matching times of 51.48.

Harvard’s Dean Farris rounded out the top ten with a time of 51.66.
